Trump authorises expansion of Kavanaugh probe

Supreme Court Justice Kagan won’t discuss Kavanaugh

Dianne Feinstein has asked the White House and Federal Bureau of Investigation to disclose any limits placed on a probe of sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has said the probe should be limited to "current credible allegations" against Mr Kavanaugh and be finished by next Friday.

Dr. Ford has not offered a consistent account of when the alleged assault happen.

Ford remained firm and unruffled through hours of testimony. A vote on Kavanaugh's nomination is being delayed up to one week while the FBI investigates multiple claims of sexual misconduct leveled against the nominee.

For Blumenthal and other Democrats, the FBI investigation is important but also secondary.

The Senate will vote on Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court this week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared on Monday.

"The White House isn't intervening".

Top reporters help us look ahead to the week's news, including what could be a pivotal moment for the Senate and the Supreme Court.

"Based on what we publicly know as far as the universe of people, I don't see any reason why the FBI could not complete an investigation within one week", said Mark Zaid, a Washington lawyer and expert in security clearance and background investigations. "It's not meant to be a fishing expedition", White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said on CNN's "State of the Union". But this isn't about emotion, it's about facts, and all the facts end on Brett Kavanaugh's side. The big question is: "Was that Brett Kavanaugh?". The investigators will compile information about Kavanaugh's past and provide their findings to the White House and include the information in Kavanaugh's background file, which is available to senators.

She said Mr Kavanaugh was "very inebriated", and feared he was "accidentally going to kill me".

Democrats led by the Senate Judiciary Committee's ranking member, Sen. "We actually need to find out what we can find out".

"The American people saw the brilliant and really incredible character, quality and courage of our nominee", Trump said, accusing Democrats of attempting to sabotage his nominee to "overturn the results" of the 2016 presidential election. "They'll be doing things that we have never even thought of", he said. Titled "Analysis of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's Allegations", Mitchell implies Ford's testimony is uncorroborated and unsubstantiated in the memo, which leaked to the press late Sunday evening. Judge has said he has "no memory" of the incident but will cooperate with investigators. She also named P.J. Smyth and Leland Ingram Keyser as guests at the party.

"It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover", Flake said during an interview at the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Boston.

The justices take the bench at 10 a.m. Washington time Monday to hear arguments in the first of 42 cases they've agreed to decide during the nine-month term.

"If truth were the only goal, there would be no clock", Comey wrote, which he called "idiotic" elsewhere in the op-ed.

Murkowski is not on the committee, but also has not announced how she will vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation. "It's not as hard as Republicans hope it will be", he wrote.

Three women have made accusations against Kavanaugh while he was a high school and college student.

Kavanaugh has denied all the allegations made against him.

A third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused Mr Kavanaugh and Mr Judge of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women in the early 1980s, among other accusations.
