England face daunting target to win at Trent Bridge

Hardik Pandya,Harbhajan Singh,Michael Holding

Brief scores: India: 329 and 353/7 decl England: 161 and 173/4 in 62 overs (Jos Buttler 62, Ben Stokes 42). Hardik Pandya struck a brisk run-a-ball 52* with 7 fours and a six to add quick runs for India.

No side have made more to win in the fourth innings of a Test match than the West Indies' 418 for seven against Australia at St John's, Antigua, in 2003.

The highest in their history dates back nearly 90 years, to the 332 for seven they made in the 1928/29 Ashes in Melbourne.

Virat Kohli never ceases to amaze the crowd with both his bat and witty antics; and the ongoing India vs England test series happening in England is a proof of it. Resuming the session at 194/2, Pujara and Kohli started the session with some beautifully crafted shots before Pujara was dismissed by Stokes. He stroked 10 boundaries in his 197-ball essay.

England leads 2-0 after wins in Edgbaston and Lord's but is highly likely to be 2-1 up heading to Southampton for the fourth test next week.

With his third delivery from the pavilion end, Stokes found a little extra bounce and the outside-edge of Cheteshwar Pujara's forward-defence as Alastair Cook completed the dismissal with a straightforward catch at first slip.

Kohli was not at his most fluent but this was an ideal innings given India's situation and an edged four off Chris Woakes, his 10th boundary in 191 balls during almost five hours at the crease, saw the star batsman to a 23rd Test hundred.

But having got to the landmark, Kohli was out shortly afterwards when he missed a legside flick against all-rounder Woakes and was lbw for 103.

Kohli, who fell for 97 in India's first innings, top-scored with 103 as the tourists, looking to bounce back from 2-0 down in this five-match series, piled up a total of 352 for seven declared.

Starting at the overnight score of 124 for 2, India had flawless conditions for batting on a humid and warm day and Kohli and Pujara looked to grind and play for time with no hurry whatsoever.

While conditions offered a degree of assistance to swing bowlers on Sunday, they could not explain England's latest in a long line of batting collapses. I didn't score too many runs this season, but in county I was batting well. Kohli also crossed the 400-run mark in this series, becoming only the second Indian captain after Mohammad Azharuddin (426) to do so against England.

Root was first to go, just hanging his bat out to a wide delivery as Rahul caught another one at second slip.

England's faint chances of avoiding defeat in Nottingham were hit during the first session of the day when wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow broke a bone in the middle finger of his left hand attempting to take a catch. However, an European Central Bank spokesman announced the likelihood is that Bairstow will be able to bat. Bumrah delivered a ideal ball which took an edge and keeper Rishabh Pant made no mistakes and grabbled it easily.

Earlier, in the first session, Pujara and Kohli helped India take their overall lead to 362 as India was 194/2.

In Ishant's next over, England lost Cook. Ajinkya Rahane (29) and Pandya then put on 47 runs for the sixth wicket, before Adil Rashid (3/101) bowled the former.
