Man City sweat on De Bruyne after knee injury

Kevin De Bruyne will undergo a scan tomorrow

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has reportedly suffered an injury setback that could see the Belgian miss a couple of months of action - and some of the Liverpool fans on Twitter believe the news has given them a massive boost in the Premier League title race.

However, with the season in its infancy and the transfer window closed, the Champions have now confirmed that their star midfielder is undergoing tests after sustaining an injury to his right knee in training this afternoon.

In 2016, De Bruyne missed out on 12 games after suffering an injury in the League Cup against Everton.

"The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course", read a brief statement on the club's website.

As such, Jurgen Klopp's men are 10/3 (4.33) with bet365 in the outright victor market but this price could well get shorter in the coming days once the extent of De Bruyne's injury is known. And De Bruyne's injury could present an early opportunity for exciting youngster Phil Foden.

The 27-year-old came on for the final 30 minutes in City's 2-0 win against Arsenal on the opening weekend last Sunday and cut short his holiday in a bid to play against the Gunners.

However, the reigning league champions may have to find a way without him over the next couple of months and attention may shift onto the likes of David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan to help fill his void.
