Iran rules out meeting with Trump

Trump says he would 'certainly meet' with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said Trump's offer to negotiate with Tehran contradicted his actions as Washington has imposed sanctions on Iran and put pressure on other countries to avoid business with the Islamic Republic. In fact, the Trump administration appears to be quietly encouraging a rebellion inside Iran stemming from the deteriorating economic conditions in the country, partly as a result of punitive sanctions.

On July 23, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington was not afraid to sanction top-ranking leaders of the "nightmare" Iranian regime.

Recently, the Trump White House announced that it seeks to bring Iran's oil sales down to "zero". So lastly, even if they were to meet, why would Rouhani want to negotiate a new nuclear deal with the United States given that the Americans have turned their back on an already existing deal? "I do believe that they will probably end up wanting to meet".

Mike Pompeo, the USA secretary of state, appeared to contradict Mr Trump on Tuesday when he said the U.S. had several preconditions before talks.

Hamid Aboutalebi, an adviser to Rouhani, tweeted on Monday, calling for the respect Iran and return to the original nuclear deal.

In contrast with his tweet, Trump assumed a more measured tone during the joint press conference Monday, alongside visiting Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

At the same time, senior cleric Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, a member of Iran's Expediency Council, said it didn't make sense to reject the offer out of hand.

Iranian figures familiar with policy-making say, as a faltering economy and a sliding currency stir street protests, that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could consider diplomacy with Washington and drink from "the chalice of poison", a reference to the phrase used by his predecessor Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini when he reluctantly agreed to a UN-mediated truce that ended the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

In response, Iran said that if it is rendered incapable of selling its oil, other countries in the region will face the same - a relatively implicit statement that was taken to mean that Iran may block its waters in the Strait of Hormuz, through which worldwide oil cargoes pass. "So many things have happened so positive", Mr Trump said.

He reactivated US sanctions, the most all-encompassing measures against Iran, and warned countries to stop importing Iranian oil from November 4 or risk USA penalties.

The Majlis deputy speaker said the situation is not right for negotiations "because it will be accompanied by disgrace and humiliation".

"Bolton and Pompeo are seeking adventurism, while Trump is talking about negotiation with Iran".

The 2015 agreement came in response to fears that Iran was developing a nuclear bomb. Iran doesn't. I think it's important to establish some sort of dialogue with the dictator of a power that can nuke American territory and possibly American cities. It is getting ever clearer that these USA measures are no longer merely aimed at changing Iran's behavior but instead at regime change. The declaration comes just days after Trump blasted Rouhani on Twitter, warning of military force.
