Israel fires at Syrian missiles on Golan Heights: army

White Helmets expected to be resettled in UK after rescue from Syria

Prior to the meeting, Netanyahu said he would reiterate Israel's position that it expects Syrian President Bashar Assad and his Iranian-backed allies to honor the 1974 agreement which sets out a demilitarized zone along their shared frontier, and that Israel will continue to act to stop its archenemy Iran, the world's leading state-sponsor of terror, from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria.

Israel seized 1,200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Six Day war, in a move never recognised internationally.

State TV said 10 buses entered a village in Quneitra on Thursday night for the evacuation of those insurgents "who refuse to settle with the state" towards rebel territory in the north.

Britain's Foreign Office said it had helped facilitate the overnight evacuations.

In a statement on Monday the group said during the southwest campaign four of its volunteers were killed and dozens injured, four White Helmet centres were hit and rescue vehicles were destroyed by Syrian government bombardment.

It is understood that the United Nations Human Right Council's procedures for identifying and resettling refugees would be used to decide who could come to the UK, while their placement would be resolved through the Government's vulnerable persons resettlement scheme.

"We pay tribute to the courageous and selfless work that White Helmet volunteers have done to save Syrians on all sides of the conflict".

Hunt described the White Helmets as "the bravest of the courageous", adding that "in a desperate situation this is at least one ray of hope". Granting them protection is, I believe, a humanitarian duty and an expression of my policy to uphold humanity and order in migration policy.

On Sunday, 422 of the group and their family members arrived in Jordan, Jordan's foreign ministry announced.

It was unclear how many White Helmet volunteers remained in both the Daraa and Quneitra provinces after the evacuations.

In June, Israel fired a missile at a drone that approached its airspace near the Syrian frontier.

- The Israeli military in coordination with its USA and European allies evacuated hundreds of Syrian rescue workers known as the White Helmets from near its volatile frontier with Syria, in a complex and first-of-a-kind operation.

But a volunteer in Daraa city, who asked to remain anonymous, said he had chose to stay despite being given the choice to leave.

"We are first and foremost a humanitarian organisation, not a military one, or a terrorist one as the regime alleges". It added that they were evacuated because of "a risk to their lives".

"It's well known, that the White Helmets had their hand in the most notorious false flag operations during the Syrian conflict".

This was the first such Israeli intervention in Syria's lengthy civil war, now in its eighth year.

Some members have received training overseas, including in Turkey, returning to instruct colleagues on search-and-rescue techniques. All other opposition fighters along the southwestern border left following deals struck with the Syrian government and Russian forces.
