Ritz products recalled over Salmonella concerns

Ritz Cracker products recalled over Salmonella fears

The company that manufactures Ritz announced a recall of some of its products due to a risk of salmonella contamination.

The company says there have also been no reports of illness but chose to voluntarily remove out of safety concerns.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has notified the public of the recalls from No Name and Christie brand products (CFIA).

Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, the agency said.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

In a news release issued Saturday, the company said while the product is sold across Canada, the recall only pertains to products sold in eastern Canada.

Consumers are advised to discard any products they may have.

Anyone with questions can contact the company directly Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.to 3 p.m. local time at 844-366-1171.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It is conducting a food safety investigation, which it said may lead to the recall of other products.
