Sacked Chelsea coach Antonio Conte issues statement

Antonio Conte has released a statement thanking Chelsea players and staff for their "hard work and support" during his two-year tenure at the club.

"I think with one or two adjustments, we can try to play my football".

"Jorginho is not a physical player, he's a technical player", said Sarri.

Meanwhile, transfer specialist Giulia Stronati claims Wednesday will see new talks between Higuain's agent and the Premier League outfit.

Conte also expressed his thanks to the players and staff at the club - scroll below for full statement in tweet. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy.

Conte was axed 55 days after winning the FA Cup in his final match and despite overseeing pre-season training earlier last week.

Conte joined Chelsea in 2016 and led them to the league title in his debut season along with an FA Cup triumph last campaign.

Midfielder Jorginho has arrived from Napoli in a deal worth £57m but Sarri is desperate for more fresh faces amid rumours that Eden Hazard and Willian are set to leave. Bringing in Milinkovic-Savic and Jorginho to play alongside N'Golo Kante could go some way to turning Chelsea into a force again as they look to rebuild under Sarri.

But Sarri can not concern himself about Abramovich's long-term interest, following the Russian billionaire's visa dispute with the United Kingdom authorities, or the indefinite postponement of plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge.

He added: "It was fantastic for me to be able to share my emotions, passion and enthusiasm throughout two unforgettable seasons with these incredible Chelsea supporters, who will always stay in my heart".

A slow start to the season could prove costly for Chelsea's hopes of returning to the top four in a Premier League that is more competitive than ever at the top end, but Sarri insisted that the prospect of battling the coaching luminaries in charge of the Blues' main rivals motivates him.

LMA chief executive Richard Bevan anticipates Conte will be sought after following his stint at Stamford Bridge.
