Bryce Harper wins Home Run Derby in home park

Home Run Derby results today: Bryce Harper of Washington Nationals wins

Harper did end up winning the Home Run Derby in front of the home crowd at Nationals Park - edging Kyle Schwarber to do so.

Well, the Nationals' slugger launched 45 home runs to win the competition.

Here's what you need to know to livestream the 2018 MLB Home Run Derby.

It was a fight for Schwarber to advance through each round, starting with a close call against Bregman in the first round.

In the opening round, Schwarber was pitted against Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros.

Not that we needed more reasons to cheer him on at the All-Star Game. Apparently, the rule of the home run derby is that the pitcher can't throw the hitter another ball until the last one they hit touches the ground. The difference was the pair of homers that Schwarber hit during 30 seconds of extra time, the reward for hitting two long balls of at least 440 feet. It was the best moment that didn't involve Harper. Aguilar entered with 24 homers, good for the most in the National League and the most among 2018 Home Run Derby participants.

At the same time, it's the Home Run Derby.

Hoskins, the No. 8 seed, pulled the biggest upset of the first round when he knocked off top-seeded Jesus Aguilar from the Milwaukee Brewers, 17-12, in the first matchup. Unfortunately, he only managed 12 in his first-round loss to Rhy Hoskins, which tied Freddie Freeman for the lowest total. It's always more fun when the hometown team is represented. The event simply lacked the kind of star power that it regularly featured in the past, which might not bode well for the future.
