Rutland Girl Critically Injured In Bahamas Boat Explosion

People on a neighboring boat attempted to rescue injured passengers from the explosion off Exuma in the Bahamas on Saturday

An investigation into what caused the explosion is ongoing. Luckily, Paul and Brooke minor injuries, including bruises and cuts.

A 22-year-old lifelong dancer lost both of her legs in a boat explosion, her family says, but she doesn't know it yet. Two others who were aboard the boat were not injured, Knowles said. The tragedy occurred about 130 miles south of Exuma, an island south of Nassau, ABC 10 reports.

Ms Schaffer was sitting right above the location of the blast and is also in a critical condition, her uncle told NBC News.

Among the injured was Stefanie Schaffer, 22, a dancer whose injuries necessitated a double leg amputation below the knee, ABC News reports.

Her Facebook page shows a love of travel, as her cover photo, from June 2018, is of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. "The boat bursts into flames shortly after 9 a.m.", the page read. Stacey suffered multiples broken bones and internal injuries. She requires surgery on her two fractured legs.

Her husband was hospitalized "in bad shape".

The family said in a statement to United States media on Tuesday: "As you can imagine this is an incredibly hard time for the family, especially Tiran and Maleka's 12-year-old son".

Chester Cooper, a member of parliament for Exumas and Ragged Island, identified the person who died as an American woman. Still, passengers in red life jackets waded through a translucent turquoise sea to rescue survivors from the burning boat.

"We are shocked and saddened to hear the news that senior Stefanie Schaffer and her family were involved in such a tragic accident", the university wrote on Facebook. The blast and resulting fire sent thick black smoke pouring into the light blue sky off the coast of Barraterre, Exuma. They sustained less serious injuries.
