Scott kept alive his 17-year streak playing in all the majors with a two-putt from 30 feet for par on his final hole at The Lakes Golf and Country Club.

He has climbed almost 200 spots on the world rankings in 2018 to 152 despite not having full playing status anywhere, and held off some late nerves to secure his second major start for the year.

He's secured a place at the U.S. golf Open in NY, after finishing in a share of fifth at the sectional qualifying tournament at the Walton Heath Golf Club in London.

His two rounds of 68 and 70, to finish six under par were highlighted by a spectacular hole in one on the 6th hole during his second round which put him inside the all-important top four who booked their ticket to Shinnecock Hills Golf Club for next week's second major of the year.

"I am pumped. It has been an epic day".

Scott has played in every major since the 2001 British Open and his 67 consecutive starts puts him behind only Spaniard Sergio Garcia (75).

"It was certainly nice to continue the form from yesterday's round into today and I'm just very happy and hopefully it can continue for another week or so entering the US Open", said Fox.

"To be honest I just got it in the hole really well, I didn't feel I played that special".

"The way I handled myself in the lead was really pleasing, too, because I knew I was four or five shots inside the (qualifying number) with 10 or so holes to play".

One player who is more familiar with another sport also qualified.

The longest day in golf, a.k.a. sectional qualifying Monday for the U.S. Open, is finally complete.

Players have a last chance to qualify for the U.S. Open if they finish in the top 60 on the world rankings after the FedEx St. Jude Classic this week.

Shane Lowry of Ireland, who has yet to finish better than a tie for 14th all year, found his game on a handsome day in central OH with rounds of 68-67 to share medalist honors with Sungjae Im of South Korea, who leads the Web.com Tour money list. Rank, an National Hockey League referee, shared medalist honors with Michael Hebert to get one of three spots in the qualifier in Roswell, Georgia.
