Google's new, free Spotify rival — YouTube Music

YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Will Launch in Canada Soon

That's a feature familiar to Google Play Music users, and hopefully it works just as well. Yeah, it's pretty confusing.

Canada, along with Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, will see YouTube Music launch "soon". Google Play Music subscribers get the best deal, as they get a YouTube Music Premium subscription for free.

"The days of jumping back and forth between multiple music apps and YouTube are over, explained Elias Roman, Product Manager of YouTube Music". You also get artist radios, thousands of playlists and smart search, which lets you search for a song in descriptive terms. YouTube intends to charge $2 for other parts of YouTube service, but you will be required to pay for YouTube Music in any case. Artists and labels often upload remixes, concert videos, and more to YouTube.

YouTube Premium is rolling out in the same markets as YouTube Music, following the same schedule. Users will be able to choose between YouTube Music, available either for free with ads or for $9.99 per month, and YouTube Premium costing $11.99 per month. This is the new name for YouTube Red.

YouTube Music is free, with ads. Its latest reshuffle puts YouTube Music in direct competition with Apple (with 50 million subscribers) and Spotify (with 75 million paying subscribers, 170 million users total).

Another layer of complication is that Google Play Music still exists.

YouTube is overhauling its subscription streaming business. That makes those grandfathered plans a terrific deal.

YouTube Music will replace Google Play Music as the primary player on Android devices.

"Whether you want to listen, watch or discover, it's all here". The new YouTube Music will be completely its own service that will have its own desktop player, according to Android Police.

There have been many rumors in the past few months about a new YouTube Music service coming soon, and Google made it official today.
