Snapchat is Coming Back, Rolls Back Redesign

Consumer sentiment toward Snapchat drops following redesign

The new Snapchat redesign puts both Snaps and Chats in chronological order again rather than trying to sort things using an algorithm, and moves Stories from your friends back to the right-hand side of the app. Launching the app also launches the camera - allowing you to easily swipe left in order to access the right-hand screen where you can locate your friends' content.

They're significant changes, which come off the back of disappointing Q1 financial results.

To try and smooth things over, Snap hosted a number of publishers in NY and Los Angeles at day-long summits.

Is Snapchats charm fading away?

Its user sentiment - measured by having consumers rank their impression of a brand on a scale of 100 for "very positive" to -100 for "very negative" - among 18- to 34-year-old US consumers declined 73 percent.

Last week he said about the design, "A change this big to existing behaviour comes with some disruption".

The survey is notable in that millennials largely make up Snapchat's target user group and can be incredibly hard to win back. However, unlike more established platforms like Facebook and Instagram, Snapchat has yet to find a way to monetize in a meaningful manner. Most notably, Snapchat's value fell by $1.3 billion after reality TV star Kylie Jenner Tweeted about her disapproval of the app, saying "Sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore?".

The latest changes actually go a long way toward restoring peace and tranquility for subscribers of the messaging app. That means if you tap a Story from the friends category on the Discover page, that won't be mixed in with brand content - you'll still have to head to the subscription section to view content from brands.

Late last month, we told you that Snapchat was testing a redesign of its UI.
