Davis, Pels rout Warrors in Game 3 for first win of series

Ricky Rubio Derrick Favors questionable for Jazz in Game 4

With this win, this second round series between the Dubs and the Pels s goes from a dominant 2-0 lead for the Warriors to a 2-1 split.

Over the course of the previous two games played in the series, the Warriors had looked as though they had rediscovered their identity of a gritty, offensively fluid team.

Pelicans forward Nikola Mirotic may be the midseason acquisition of the year and he is certainly making the biggest impact of anyone who came over in a trade at the deadline in the postseason. He is the first player since he managed it in 2011 to tally 20 or more assists in a playoff game.

Had they gone down 3-0 in the series, their season would have almost been guaranteed to be over.

But Davis has truly taken the next step this season and he looks like a freak of nature out on the court.

Both teams talked about the importance of getting off to a fast start, but only the Pelicans followed through on that.

Solomon Hill, all of all people, was drilling 3-pointers, Jrue Holiday was scoring at will and the Pelicans finished the first half with 10 made 3s. The Warriors shot just 36% in the opening quarter, while the Pelicans shot an excellent 52%.

The Pelicans proved they can hang with the Warriors in their blowout win in Game 3 of their playoff series.

Draymond Green and Rajon Rondo were at it again, pushing and shoving each other after the whistle, but neither of them wanted to take the blame.

The ever-dangerous Warriors hit 7-of-18 themselves and Klay Thompson led them with 20 points at the break.

The Pelicans made 50 percent of their shots (48 of 96), including 45.2 percent of their 3-point attempts (14 of 31).

And if they're making shots, they become unsafe. The Pelicans surged to a 17 point lead to enter the fourth quarter ahead of the Warriors 92-75. The officiating wasn't much better in the series opener, when Holiday was effectively eliminated when he he was called for four phantom fouls in the first two quarters and change, and where at one point the Pelicans had a 15-6 foul disadvantage on the Warriors.

If New Orleans' 3-point bombs are falling, the multiple defenders Anthony Davis requires are forced to go elsewhere.

Anyone predict New Orleans reserve guard Ian Clark would ring up 18 points against his old team and do a superb job in the second half to help limit Curry to 18 points? Stephen Curry, in his second game back after a sprained knee sidelined him more than a month, missed 13 of 19 shots and finished with 19 points. Rondo finished with four points on 2-of-11 shooting, 21 assists and 10 rebounds. Harden only needed to play 30 minutes, putting up a cool 25 points and 12 assists, while Eric Gordon matched up with 25 points of his own off the bench.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry added that he "felt real good" during a time out when he heard Davis say, "We're not losing this game".
