The "Fearless Girl" Statue Is Being Moved

NYC PAPERS OUT. Social media use restricted to low res file max 184 x 128 pixels and 72 dpi

The planned move, which officials said was prompted in part by traffic safety concerns, will place "Fearless Girl" in a pedestrian-only area at the corner of Wall and Broad Streets, the site of George Washington's inauguration in 1789 as the country's first president, where it will face the NYSE.

The "Fearless Girl" statue, created by DE sculptor Kristen Visbal, was revealed on International Women's Day in 2017the New York Post reported.

The statue will move to a spot facing the New York Stock Exchange, a fitting location given that the piece was commissioned by Boston-based State Street Corp.to mark International Women's Day and the firm's efforts to put more women on corporate boards.

"Fearless Girl", whose message is for a bigger role for women in corporate America and whose appearance in lower Manhattan on the eve of International Women's Day previous year sparked a social media sensation, will be moved by the end of 2018, officials said.

State Street's investment arm, State Street Global Advisors, will work with the mayor's office to relocate Fearless Girl by the end of the year.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has called the statue "a powerful symbol of the need for change at the highest levels of corporate America". The statue was meant to be a temporary installation, but now, the mayor said, she'll be moving to a "new, long-term home". The "Fearless Girl" statue was intentionally created to go vis-a-vis with the bull statue to demonstrate women's leadership.

"We're grateful to State Street for their partnership in keeping the Fearless Girl here in New York City". She hopes that by remaining in the public eye, "Fearless Girl" will "continue to inspire the global community regarding gender collaboration in every aspect of life". Di Modica wanted the girl gone, saying she altered the dynamic of his bull and was no more than what he called "an advertising trick". Police removed the statue, which didn't have a permit.

The 11-foot-tall (3-meter-tall), 7,100-pound behemoth by Italian sculptor Arturo Di Modica had become a symbol of American financial resilience following the 1987 stock market crash. He could not immediately be reached to comment on the possibility that "Charging Bull" may move.
