Marleau scores twice as Maple Leafs rebound to take Game 3

Bruins road gets a bit tougher as Maple Leafs take Game 3, 4-2

And the Leafs have obviously scouted the Bruins defence, which likes to pinch in at the Leafs blue line to keep the offensive possession alive, or create another play to the net. The Bruins, meanwhile, couldn't get the bounces.

Or as Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock put it after his team won Game 3 over the Boston Bruins by a 4-2 margin: "What you have to remember is these guys are young guys".

Patrick Marleau put this game away with his second goal of the night to make it 4-2 Leafs and David Pastrnak just could not get a puck by Andersen (and the goal posts) tonight.

James van Riemsdyk (on a power play) and Auston Matthews (the official game-winning goal) also scored for the Maple Leafs, meaning their big guns produced all their offense while the Bruins only got goals from Adam McQuaid and Zdeno Chara - nobody's idea of snipers. Their 28 home wins in the regular season were tied for the most in franchise history with the 2000-01 squad that hoisted the Stanley Cup. They're still in control of this series and if they make the right adjustments they'll be the ones throwing a game-sealing hit on one of the Maple Leafs' stars in the closing seconds of Thursday's Game 4.

Marleau's first goal of the game came at 3:49 of the second period from Mitch Marner of Markham, Ontario and Morgan Rielly of Vancouver, British Columbia. Miller also had two giveaways, and the duo was on the ice for both of Marleau's 2-on-1 goals. But they were chasing the game all night while the Leafs found a rhythm in the attacking end and layered up in the defensive and neutral zones. Sean Kuraly had two assists for the Bruins, who got 26 stops from Tuukka Rask. "We knew they were going to come hard, and they did, but we responded pretty well. If you think you missed it, then there are plenty of infractions and you can probably find one later".

"We stuck to our game plan", Marner said.

Again minus centre Nazem Kadri, who served the second game of a three-game ban for his hit on Tommy Wingels in Game 1, Toronto bumped Tomas Plekanec up from the fourth line to play between Marleau and Marner on the No. 2 unit.

Frustrating as it may have been, Cassidy wasn't about to blame that call for Boston's first loss of the series.

As Andersen goes, so do the Leafs.

Later in the second, Zdeno Chara tied the game at two with a lovely top shelf goal you'd expect to see from one of the Bruins' top line players. But, much like he's done throughout his career, the Leafs workhorse was back to haunting the Black and Gold en route to a solid 40-save night.

Van Riemsdyk provided an early spark for the desperate club, scoring a power play goal late in the first period that gave Toronto a lead for the first time. The lanky JVR, who had 36 goals in the regular season but had been barely visible in the first two games in Boston, jammed it home between Rask's blocker arm and body from the top of the crease and the Leafs were up 1-0. But it won't be easy if the Maple Leafs continue their improved play from Game 3. But one had to wonder how the physicality took its toll over the course of 60 minutes, maybe slowing Pastrnak down a little bit, maybe reducing his courage to get to the dirty areas. We talked about Auston [Matthews] and Freddie is one of those guys that has to feel like he's back. "It was a fun game, a good win for us".

Andersen was quite good, as was another player that Babcock mentioned in the aforementioned comment. Get ready for more nail-biting action for the next 2-4 games in this series!

Hyman, meanwhile, return to the top line with Matthews and Nylander.

"They play that style where they want to counter you with their speed", Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy said Tuesday.

"There's always something you can do better when they score", Bergeron said about the shift that led to Matthews' go-ahead goal.
