"Allegations on them being pro-rapists aren't true", Madhav added. "Now, such a perception is being created that I deemed it fit to tender my resignation". Government sources said Ms. Mufti had also spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue and sought his intervention. "We are all ashamed as a society, as a country", Modi said, speaking at the inauguration of the Ambedkar National Memorial here.

"The essence of India's democracy lies in its robust institutions and it has been once again established that these institutions have the grit to ensure justice to all sections of society", Mehbooba said at a meeting of PDP legislators here.

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has expressed hope that the authorities will bring perpetrators of the brutal crime to justice. "She was handsome and we loved her", she said. Because in every step we take, there's that faint voice of caution that will constantly remember Jyoti Singh and the face of the little girl in ponytails and the countless other nameless and faceless victims and survivors of horrific acts of assault, violence and rape as a reminder and a warning. "The two Ministers had informed the party that they had gone there only to defuse tension and assure everyone the culprits will be punished", said Mr. Nirmal Singh.

Madhav said, "There was indiscretion on part of our 2 ministers".

"When you are in public life, people come to you with their version. If my resignation can save the image of my party, I will give this sacrifice", Ganga told the media.

He lashed out at the Congress, alleging that it was trying to politicise the issue which should not be done. He also denied any trouble in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party.

"The BJP wants justice for the victim and there are no two opinions on that".

A day after blaming Pakistan for Kathua rape incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nandkumar Singh Chauhan on Friday said that his statement was not reported properly. What kind of investigation are they doing. "But the MLAs were misguided".

The meeting in Hiranagar area of Kathua district was called in support of the accused in the brutal gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old whose body was recovered from a forested area near her home, days after she went missing on January 10. It is after almost three months that the gory incident has evoked widespread outrage across the country with strong voices being raised by political leaders, social activists, civil society groups and Bollywood celebrities for awarding severe punishment to the perpetrators of the crime.
