DOLLAR BIRTH: What it's REALLY like to give birth at Kate's hospital

Kate Middleton Prince William Prince George

The Palace confirmed that Middleton's baby was due in April back in October, but her exact due date has never been announced.

The parking ban runs until 30 April with rumours that the Duchess of Cambridge is due on St George's Day, 23 April.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not ask if they would be welcoming a son or daughter during routine scans, deciding to be surprised as with the their previous pregnancies.

When Kate does finally give birth (has it really only been nine months?), the public will likely hear about it through social media, specifically from the active Twitter account of Kensington Palace.

Barriers and parking restrictions are being put in place outside the hospital's private Lindo Wing.

According to Sky News, barriers have been set up on the street outside the hospital to accommodate television crews and photographers.

But her two previous births have been fairly quick affairs; Kate was only in hospital just over 24 hours when she gave birth to her first child on July 22 2013.

The succession act was amended in 2011 when Prince William got married.

Catherine is now on maternity leave from royal duties, and is not likely to return to her official responsibilities until some months after welcoming her new baby. But they'll only be able to stand outside of the famous Lindo ward door once they've been given the all clear from Kensington Palace officials. However, she added the date could change as Middleton gave birth to Prince George and Princess Charlotte much later than expected.

Although this baby will only be fifth in line, the popularity of William, Kate, George and Charlotte across the globe means the arrival of the newest member of the Windsors will be high-profile once again.

Princess Charlotte was born in 2015, Wills and Kate's second child after Prince George. "The whole family is excited, including the children, who are very much aware that they are about to welcome a new brother or sister". Keep in mind though, if the birth happens in the middle of the night, Kensington Palace will not make any announcement before 9 a.m. United Kingdom time (4 a.m. EST).
