CNN Makes Excuses For FBI's Cohen Raid And Calls Trump's Comments 'Dangerous'

Trump holds a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington

It's an attack on our country, in a true sense.

The FBI raid on the office and hotel room of Michael Cohen, a longtime personal attorney to Trump, resulted in the seizure of "protected attorney-client communications", according to a lawyer for Cohen.

Before applying for a search warrant, a federal prosecutor has to consult with the criminal division at the Department of Justice and seek approval from the USA attorney or an assistant attorney general. "But he signed, as you know, he also signed the FISA warrant, so Rod Rosenstein, who's in charge of this, signed a FISA warrant", Trump said, before adding again that Rosenstein was right about Comey.

The raid made the effort more hard because of Trump's anger over the raids, all three officials said.

Cohen's finances are not public, and it is not known how much he was paid by Trump, whose company is privately held.

Neither Cobb nor McGahn responded on Tuesday to requests for comment.

It's not immediately clear ... but the raid (s) against Cohen clearly represents the most direct shot Mueller has taken at Trump. Privileged communication in the context of the law goes something like this: An attorney and his or her client can't be forced to disclose those communications where the client is seeking or receiving legal advice from the attorney.

The war cry was loudest on Fox News, where close Trump confidant Sean Hannity raged that "Mueller has ostensibly tonight declared war against the president of the United States". "He's uniquely situated to have interesting paperwork about the President".

Adult film star Stormy Daniels arrives at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 10, 2008.

"If you do something wrong, I'm going to come at you, grab you by the neck, and I'm not going to let you go until I'm finished", he said. On Tuesday, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she was not sure whether Mr. Cohen remained Mr. Trump's personal lawyer.

Tweeted Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti on Tuesday morning: "I use the attorney-client privilege".

The Monday raid on Cohen's hotel room, home and office came after federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained a warrant based in part on a referral from special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE, who is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz expressed concern over the Cohen raid, explaining to Fox News anchor Sean Hannity that Monday was a "dangerous day today for lawyer-client relations".

A furious Trump, who in the last month has escalated his attacks on Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, said on Monday (Tuesday NZT) from the White House that it was a "disgrace" that the FBI "broke into" his lawyer's office. But now it has reached a point where firing Mueller might not solve Trump's problem, even if he could get away with it.

Asked on Monday after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raids if he would fire Mueller, Trump replied, "We'll see what happens". "We'll see what happens".

This article includes reporting from The Associated Press. The so-called "crime fraud" exception permits puncturing that privilege if it can be established that the client communicated with the intention of covering up a crime or fraud.

Daniels got $130,000 from Cohen in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement concerning her relationship with Trump.

Cohen has said he made the payment from his own pocket, taking out a home equity line of credit to do so. If Mr. Cohen misled banks about the objective of such transactions, he could face charges of bank fraud.

"We don't have the particulars on what they're looking for", Healy said.
