Martinsville races postponed until Monday

Martin Truex Jr. celebrates after winning the NASCAR 400 mile auto race Sunday

A heavy snowstorm in the southwest Virginia region prompted NASCAR to postpone the Cup Series and Truck Series races scheduled for Sunday at Martinsville Speedway. The Truck Series race will resume at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, with the Cup race set to follow at 2 p.m.

Both races will air on Fox Sports 1.

Shortly thereafter, NASCAR postponed the race and rescheduled it until Monday.

The difference is now the order in which they will be run.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) The NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway has been postponed until Monday because of inclement weather.

It's not often that snow interferes with NASCAR race weekends, but it does happen on occasion.

"Way more snow than anticipated last night-Met with track/local authorities this morning-resources need to be dedicated to local community-roads-trees down, etc".

This storm, fortunately, isn't almost on that scale.

While snow also canceled the Cup Series qualifying session, the tour did get 100 minutes of practice on Saturday morning and will start based on team owner points.

Martin Truex Jr. is on the pole, with Kyle Busch joining him on the front row.
