- The Detroit Lions announced Wednesday they have signed tight end and Windsor native Luke Willson. He has 13 catches for 154 yards and one score in the playoffs, including two receptions when Seattle routed Denver in the Super Bowl four years ago.
In Detroit, Willson will get a chance to play close to his hometown of LaSalle, Ontario, which is located just across the border from Detroit.
Drafted out of Rice in the fifth round in the 2013 NFL Draft, Willson appeared in 72 games over the course of five seasons with the Seahawks.
Willson issued a public goodbye to fans of the Seattle Seahawks over Twitter on Tuesday night.
Detroit didn't re-sign Haloti Ngata and Williams potentially fills the void.
Willson joins a tight end group in Detroit that also features last year's fourth round selection Michael Roberts, as well as reserves Brandon Barnes and Hakeem Valles. Willson's one-year deal will be worth $2.5 million with potential incentives, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Graham struck a three-year deal with the Green Bay Packers last week after spending three seasons in Seattle. He has 114 career tackles, including six sacks, in 59 starts and 75 games overall.
