Another Package Bomb in Austin, Texas

Police Plea to Austin Bomber: 'We Want to Listen to You'

Four explosions in Austin, Texas, that have killed two people and injured multiple others since March 2 have the city on edge and police warning of a "serial bomber".

Austin residents, including many local real estate agents, are grappling with the news that another bombing occurred in their city on the night of Sunday, March 18 - the fourth such explosion in less than a month.

APD initially asked homeowners within a half-mile radius of the intersection of Dawn Song Drive at Republic of Texas Boulevard to stay inside their homes until 10 a.m. Monday, but extended that time to 2 p.m. Republic of Texas Boulevard is blocked between Missions Oaks and Travis Country Boulevard.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said they are looking into whether the bomb was triggered when someone handled, kicked or came in contact with a trip wire. Manley said they believe the device was activated by a tripwire as the two victims were walking alongside the road.

The two men injured are in good condition.

"It's more sophisticated. It's not targeted to individuals", said FBI agent Chris Combs, in charge of the bureau's San Antonio division.

"All my army friends, we know the experience and we've been through training-pay attention to your surroundings, don't touch things". During the media briefings for the first three explosions, police said they could not rule out the fact that the explosions might be a part of a hate crime.

A reward of $115,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

"We're clearly dealing with what we expect to be a serial bomber at this time", Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said at a news conference on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Texas Crime Stoppers are jointly offering a $115,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the serial bomber.

"The entire community is anxious this morning", Austin Mayor Steve Adler said Monday. Two nights ago, he walked several blocks, in the dark, on poorly lit streets - a similar scenario to the one two men in their 20s faced when they accidentally set off a bomb tripwire Sunday.

"That shows that the person who's doing this, they know what they are doing and they've probably practiced a lot", Ben West, a security analyst with the geopolitical intelligence platform Stratfor, told CNN affiliate KXAN.

"Given the darkness, we have not really had an opportunity to really look at this blast site to determine what has happened", the chief said.

Investigators believe the earlier attacks were related.

He also asked people living in the neighborhood of the explosion to help police for the investigation.

"We are working under the belief that this is related to the other bombing incidents that have occurred in our community over the last couple weeks", said Manley, according to The Washington Post.

"It's shocking", said Austin City Councillor Ellen Troxclair, who represents the district.

That was a departure from the three earlier bombings, which involved parcels left on doorsteps that detonated when moved or opened.

"There are probably more law enforcement officers per capita in Austin than there has ever been before", Gov. Abbott reported". None of the three bombs, which were not delivered through normal mail delivery, exploded until it was handled.

"We want to understand what brought you to this point and we want to listen to you". A 17-year-old African American boy, identified as Draylen Mason, was killed and an African American woman in her 40s was seriously injured.
