Green Bay Packers Trade Damarious Randall to Cleveland Browns for DeShone Kizer

Packers trade for DeShone Kizer from Browns

"And there it is, the fourth Browns" trade in less than 24 hours. With just two winning seasons since the expansion franchise made its debut 1999, the Browns role as a free-agent outlier was solidified long before anyone in the current front office arrived in Cleveland. He took a $10 million dollar pay cut to stay with the team last season.

Despite their 2017 woes, Cleveland has spent the last few years collecting young talent through the draft and this year they are already hard at work in free-agency.

The Cleveland Browns became the latest AFC North squad to upgrade their wide receiver corps when they agreed to send two draft picks to the Miami Dolphins for Jarvis Landry. The Browns will send a fourth-round selection this year as well as a seventh-round pick in 2019. The deal could still fall through, as we saw past year, but a wide receiver corps of Landry, Gordon, and Coleman is a nice start.

The temptation to take Barkley is probably heightened by adding Taylor, but Cleveland would be wise to identify the quarterback it likes most in the draft class and ensure that he lands with the Browns. His relationship with Jackson is well-documented, and Pryor has expressed interest, via social media, in returning to Cleveland, where the former quarterback posted 1,007 receiving yards in 2016 before ankle and foot issues derailed his 2017 season in Washington.

So now, with a Pro Bowl receiver in Landry and a very solid Tyrod Taylor joining the offensive fold with two top-four picks, what do the Browns need to do win at least one game this season?

The Randall trade leaves the Packers with an even bigger hole at cornerback.

The trade conversations surely were comfortable ones for Gutekunst, given that the Browns are now essentially Green Bay East with general manager John Dorsey and top personnel lieutenants Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith all being ex-Packers personnel staffers who worked with Gutekunst at 1265 Lombardi Avenue.

But he also sat out the final two games with a mysterious knee injury that led some to wonder if he could have played through the injury. The Browns need an enforcer at strong safety, and he should be able to make much more of an impact there in 2018. NY finished just 5-11 last season, but also owns eight draft selections - including the sixth overall pick - in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft. "They didn't have to give up a whole bounty of picks or players". As a running back with so many skills and abilities, the Browns will be adding another facet to their offense that hasn't been seen since Trent Richardson back in 2012.

As I prefaced above, any number of thing scan go wrong with this plan, but the bottom line is that the next person to throw passes in Cleveland could be working with a skill position grouping that consists of Landry, Gordon, Coleman, Njoku, and Barkley as their starting lineup. It was assumed the Browns would target Cincinnati's AJ McCarron, whom they tried to land in a trade last season before the deal was squelched when the teams failed to properly file paperwork to the league.
