Protesters in California denounce Trump visit

Welcome to California President Trump! Now skip the wall and let us educate you

President Donald Trump is set to make his first trip to California as president Tuesday to inspect eight options for his proposed massive wall along the southern border of the U.S. - but his past statements make clear that just a handful of the walls offered would meet his standards.

The prototypes cost approximately $4 million and the border wall, once completed, is expected to rack up a bill of $22 billion. But as President Trump visits this border district today to inspect the prototypes of the wall he hopes to build, commerce is not likely to be high on his agenda.

Four of the prototypes are made from concrete while the other four are made from non-concrete materials that could be used as see-through stretches, though photos of the prototypes show just two that appear to be considerably see-through.

"When some people look at the U.S. -Mexico border, they see division", Faulconer said in his State of the City address in 2017.

President Trump has arrived in California for a visit, his first since he won the White House, but details about his itinerary were rather vague.

Though Trump has floated the idea of picking a design personally, the Department of Homeland Security has said that it does not anticipate a single prototype will be selected.

Trump's visit comes just days after his Justice Department sued to block California laws created to protect people living in the U.S. illegally and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions followed up with a speech in Sacramento that was immediately denounced by Brown, who said the Trump administration was "full of liars".

San Diego's City Council previous year passed a resolution opposing Trump's proposed wall. On the Mexican side, federal and state police stood by.

"We have a lousy wall now", Trump said. "As insane as that sounds, you need transparency through that wall".

Army veteran Mark Prieto, 48, shook his head as he walked by the protest.

"We invite you to come aboard and truly 'Make America Great Again, '" he added.

His wife, Corina Prieto, a nurse who has extended family in Mexico, agreed.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing California to block several sanctuary laws that protect illegal aliens.

At least one protest is being planned for 5 p.m. nearby at Beverly Gardens Park, 9439 Santa Monica Blvd., while Trump supporters - some of whom will be coming from the border gathering - say they plan to rally at the Electric Fountain at the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards in Beverly Hills. But, he said, "I have to do it".

Trump was expected Tuesday to be briefed on lessons learned from the construction of the prototypes built in San Diego last fall.

Even in the day before Trump's visit, signs of protests were visible.

"The state of California is sheltering unsafe criminals in a brazen and lawless attack on our constitutional system of government", the president said in his weekly address.

"California's sanctuary policies are illegal and unconstitutional and put the safety and security of our entire nation at risk".

Trump tweeted Tuesday that "thousands of unsafe & violent criminal aliens are released as a result of sanctuary policies" and are "set free to prey on innocent Americans". "THIS MUST STOP!" he wrote.

The visit comes amid increasing tensions between the Trump administration and the left-leaning state over differing views on immigration. The state and environmental groups lost a major round in that battle two weeks ago, prompting a triumphant Trump to tweet that he was considering withholding any border barrier construction in California until walls are built elsewhere.

"Sanctuary jurisdictions like San Francisco and Oakland shield risky criminal aliens from federal law enforcement at the expense of public safety", Homan said of Schaaf's warning.

"I just couldn't bear the burden-continuing on as a representative of the agency and charged with upholding integrity, knowing that information was false", Schwab said.
