Labour MP: Corbyn's views on immigration make Farage smile

He said: "We can not be held back inside or outside the European Union from taking the steps we need to develop and invest in cutting edge industries and local business to stop the tide of privatisation and outsourcing".

The Labour Party has investigated the group and said that it would penalize any members who posted anti-Semitic material.

A row over Labour's position on Brexit erupted before Mr Corbyn stood up at Dundee's Caird Hall on a day that was marred by a series of gaffes.

At the 2017 General Election, the Labour Party's unexpectedly strong showing saw it seize highly affluent areas in the south of England and London that had never before been held by Labour, such as the seats of Kensington and Canterbury.

Among the comments exchanged are claims about Israeli involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and as well as links to neo-Nazi groups postings.

"I don't think anyone is suggesting that anything that Jeremy has written in any Facebook group or anywhere else constitutes anti-Semitic comments".

He added: "When Jeremy Corbyn criticises Theresa May on Brexit with his words he is cheering her on in his heart".

This caused Labour MEP Catherine Stihler to hit back: "While some voters are angry about immigration, it is the job of the Labour Party to challenge anti-immigrant sentiment and promote the benefits to our economy and public services".

An internal inquiry in 2016 found that Labour was not overrun by anti-Semitism or other forms of racism but that there was an occasionally "toxic atmosphere" within the party.

"I know I've been criticised at times because I'm quite heavy on this, and I am heavy and so is Jeremy, we will not allow any racists within our party".

"So, I tell you, if we find any of those in that Facebook group were expressing anti-Semitic views, we will take action against them in the party". The group hosted people such as Max Blumenthal, a controversial speaker accused of anti-Semitism.

"And given Ian Murray's such a keen supporter of the single market, it seems Labour's leader and most senior Scottish MP are at bitter odds on this vital matter".

Any political party has to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to anti-Semitism.

Mr Corbyn was described as "not an active participant" of the group and merely replied to a small number of messages he was tagged in and received notifications about. He left the group around the time he became Labour leader.

Jeremy Corbyn has declared it would be "wrong" for the United Kingdom to sign up to staying in the Europe's single market post-Brexit if such a deal would prevent Labour from implementing its "radical plans" for Britain.

A spokesperson for Corbyn stressed in a comment to The Guardian on Thursday that Corbyn is not alleged to have said anything anti-Semitic in the group.
