I'm Back And Ready - Serena Williams

Tennis Seles backs Serena Williams to be a grand slam contender in 2018

Serena will battle against Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas, a match that will be the first round at the Indial Wells tournament, that will be in California.

The last time Williams set foot on the court for a competitive tour match was January 2017, where she completed a successful Australian Open campaign in Melbourne to net her 23rd Grand Slam title.

After correcting the protocol for the "rock-paper-scissors" game used to determine who served first, Williams fell behind 4-2, but a double-fault from Bartoli followed by two aces from Serena saw the American great ahead 5-4.

After all, the former world number one only gave birth six months ago, and six weeks of that time was spent in bed as she recovered from emergency surgery.

DESPITE not playing an official singles match in 15 months, Serena Williams plans to lay siege to 2018's three remaining majors in her most ambitious mission statement yet. She announced the news after the Grand Slam got over and stunned the world. There have been so many days, even still, that I'm like "how am I going to keep going"?

It will be the 36-year-old's first appearance on the tour since the birth of her daughter Olympia. "She has a family, she is a mother, she has different priorities now", Mouratoglou said.

Svitolina, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 4, continued her strong play to start the season after a winning a tour-high five titles in 2017.

Her sister Venus, who was also at the event in NY, said: 'I mean, the matches are definitely a good way to know where you are, but obviously she knows how to play.

He added: "She is known for her comebacks". We all know what Serena is capable of when in good form, but the time away from the sport and the fact she's now approaching 37 years old makes you wonder just how effective she can be at this point. Now she wants to break records again, and especially one.

"I just don't see people beating her on hard courts and on grass".

Williams, a victor of 23 Grand Slam titles, is in the same quarter of the draw as older sister Venus.

"I think it's a wonderful thing and whatever you do, as long as you do it with passion it's all good".

"If I'm not ready now, I'm just never going to be ready".
