Denton County Republicans, Democrats heading to polls Tuesday for party primaries

Democratic Party Set To Show Its Force In Nation's First 2018 Primary

A congressman who has launched a longshot bid to unseat Republican Sen. It's election day and a lot is at stake for Democrats and Republicans hoping to head to the general election in November.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised eyebrows in Culberson's district when it publicly released a memo calling one of its seven candidates, Laura Moser, a "Washington insider" who'd once declared she'd "rather have my teeth pulled out without anesthesia" than live in Paris, Texas. "How much state money vs. local money we want to put in education", he said. Reporters from across Texas introduce us to three of them.

She says she'd love to see Texas "turn blue". We all know what happened.

The odds that O'Rourke defeats Cruz are north of 40 percent and rising, in my view.

Now, O'Rourke is outraising Cruz, while Trump could become a liability for the Republican. Our constitution addresses Americans as We the People- not We the Democrats or We the Republicans.

The Lone Star State holds the nation's first primary on Tuesday, and in the 11 days of early voting Democrats reached record levels in a midterm year. "The extreme left is energized and angry, and it makes it all important for conservatives to show up in November", Cruz said.

Teneshia Hudspeth with the elections division of the Harris County clerk's office said Tuesday that a last-minute change in staffing led to a delay in opening a Katy polling site.

"Most urban areas are Democratic", Riddlesperger said. This race will appear on the Republican Ballot. In 2014, the party only had 4,034 votes in early and mail voting. And it may all be due to President Donald J. Trump.

It is an ominous sign for the Republican Party, and more evidence that Trump may be a considerable drag on the ticket in the midterm elections. After longtime state representative Helen Giddings made the announcement that she would not seek reelection ... the field was wide open. Trump is still popular with his base, but because he's so historically unpopular with so many other voters his ability to help his fellow Republicans is diminished.

And check out our earlier overview, 38 Texas legislative primary races to watch.

In the first US primary of the 2018 midterm election season, Texas Democrats were fielding their largest contingent of congressional and legislative candidates in a primary in several decades, and were encouraged the strong early turnout was a sign of electoral success to come in the most populous Republican-held state.

According to an analysis by the Austin political consultant firm, Ryan Data & Research of the big-county early voting turnout through Thursday, almost 20 percent of the early-voting Democrats had never voted in a primary before. In 2014, by contrast, Republicans outpaced Democrats in early voting ― 365,423 voters to 226,730.

Conversations with more than a dozen Democratic candidates, party officials and strategists found confidence that a glut of crowded primaries won't damage the party's overall prospects for a big November.

Despite that, Texas Democratic Party chairman Gilberto Hinojosa has remained optimistic, noting that Trump beat Mrs. Clinton by fewer than 10 percentage points in Texas in 2016, the smallest margin of victory for a Republican White House candidate since 1996.

For the first time in more than 25 years, Democrats will be contesting each of Texas' 36 USA congressional districts, the party said.
