USA student fatally shoots parents in university dormitory

Two people were fatally shot at Central Michigan University on Friday

An Illinois state lawmaker said on Twitter that the family permanently resided in the Chicago area, where Davis Sr had served as a policeman until his death.

Yeagley said Davis Jr. was under guard at a hospital Saturday and would be moved to the Isabella County jail when he's discharged.

Western Michigan University's athletic director said all members of the men's basketball team, which was in Mt.

Emanuel Chris Welch, a representative in the IL legislature, identified Davis Sr.as an officer of the Bellwood Police Department.

The suspect was later overpowered by security operatives and was taken into custody shortly after the shooting incident regarded as one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. modern history. They had gone to his dorm and were planning to take him home for spring break.

Armed officers, helicopters and tracking dogs searched into the night Friday throughout the city for Davis Jr.

Jordyn Hermani, editor in chief of the CMLife campus newspaper, said her staff had published a story earlier in the week about what to do in an active-shooter situation.

Campus police identified and released a photo of Davis during an afternoon news conference.

University officials announced at 3:00 pm (2000 GMT) that students were finally being escorted out of buildings by police. The school says police are searching for a 19-year-old suspect who's considered armed and unsafe.

Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey told reporters Friday evening that he grew up with James Davis Sr., who had been a family friend and a part-time police officer with the department for more than 20 years.

The shooting happened at a residence hall at Central Michigan, which is about 70 miles north of Lansing. (Matthew Dae Smith/Lansing State Journal via AP) Authorities gather on the campus of Central Michigan University during a search for a suspect, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., Friday, March 2, 2018.

Klaus says Davis was taken to a hospital Thursday night by campus police because of a drug-related health problem, possibly an overdose.

The university said Friday morning that the report concerns Campbell Hall on its campus in Mount Pleasant.

Currently, more than 100 law enforcement officers from across MI are searching for Davis Jr., who was last seen leaving a residence hall on campus. The shooting occurred Friday around 8:30 a.m.at Central Michigan's Campbell Hall, a dormitory.

Yeagley said witness statements and video indicate that at the time they were shot, Davis Jr.'s parents were in his fourth-floor dorm at the campus' Campbell Hall "simply packing up for spring break".

Central Michigan University is a four-year, public institution with more than 23,000 students enrolled, according to the college's website. Police said they had recovered pieces of clothing along the tracks.
