Here is where to watch Kobe Bryant's Oscar-winning animated short

Kobe Bryant now adds an Oscar to his impressive collection of NBA Championships, Gold Medals, and sports awards.

Twitter lit up with celebratory messages for Bryant from fellow players and longtime fans alike.

The former NBA player snagged an Academy Award in the animated short film category Sunday for his work as the executive producer of "Dear Basketball".

Dear Basketball, written by Bryant and directed by Glen Keane, is based on a letter Bryant had published on The Players' Tribune website, announcing his plans to retire from basketball.

Kobe Bryant is now an Academy Award victor! He applauded players still in the game for making drastic steps in upping the sport.

Bryant said that the inspiration to make his poem into a short animated film, came from his 11 year-old daughter, Gianna, who had told him, "Dad, you always tell us to go after our dreams, so man up".

Five-time National Basketball Association champion, 18-time all-star, two-time MVP. The 39-year-old retired star played 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers before his retirement.

Bryant's shut up and dribble comment addressed recent criticism from a Fox News host who told Cavaliers star LeBron James to "keep the political commentary to yourself. Don't think that you want to be a writer - that's cute". "To be here now and have this sense of validation, this is insane, man", Bryant said. "I swear I do", he said backstage after picking up his award for "Dear Basketball".

Kobe was congratulated by the National Basketball Association world as Hall of Famers such as Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Bill Russell took to Twitter to pay tribute to him.

Watching the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony Sunday, you may have been surprised to see Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant on stage accepting an award.

"The hardest thing to do for athletes is to quiet the ego", Bryant said.

The criminal case was dropped after the woman was unwilling to testify in court, but the civil suit against Bryant was later settled out of court and included his apology to her, although he didn't admit guilt.
