Trump reaches informal Air Force One deal with Boeing

President Trump will get two new Air Force One jets by 2021 after $3.9bn deal with Boeing

In an exclusive report from Fox News, Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley announced the president suddenly saved the taxpayers $1.4 billion. He said the handshake deal would save $1.4 billion, implying a projected cost of $5.3 billion.

An official for Boeing, the second-largest US defense contractor behind Lockheed Martin, told Fox News that the agreement includes two aircraft and "things unique to Air Force One such as a communications suite, internal and external stairs, large galleys and other equipment".

The legendary Air Force One jets are light blue and white liveried, with "United States of America" emblazoned on the fuselage and an American flag on the tail.

Boeing said that Mr Trump had "negotiated a good deal". And the Air Force had already been working to reduce the cost of the program before Trump was elected. A Boeing official said the aircraft have always been owned by the plane maker.

In December 2016, Trump tweeted that costs for the program were "out of control, more than $4 billion". "Cancel order!" Trump said in the tweet.

"Boeing learned first, of all the defense contractors, that you have to flatter Trump, you have to give him credit for any number of things, no matter how fictitious", Aboulafia was quoted as saying.

February 27-The White House has reached an "informal deal" with aerospace giant Boeing Co. on a contract for the next generation of presidential transport aircraft.

The deal between the Trump administration and Boeing is expected to total $3.9 billion.

The President, who has repeatedly expressed his exasperation at his aging aircraft, wanted to meet face-to-face with Muilenburg to reach the deal, two officials said.

The government had a contract with Boeing to build two or more new planes. Most of the cost in this deal comes from outfitting the planes for the president, including ensuring communication equipment is secure and the plane is self-sufficient.

At the time, The White House appeared to cast doubt on the figures quoted by Mr Trump.

Pentagon officials shaved a significant amount off the cost by opting to buy two 747-8 jets that had been built for a Russian airline but had to be put in mothballs when the company went bankrupt.

In addition to targeting the Air Force One program, Trump had taken to Twitter to blast the price of the F-35 program, the most expensive in the history of the Pentagon.
