President Trump may pull Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from California

Trump 'I'm thinking about' pulling ICE out of California

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officer Thomas Homan pushed back at Democratic lawmakers in California who questioned his agency's increased enforcement activity in their state, reminding them that he is merely enforcing the laws they enacted.

It's an essential part of Trump's efforts to crack down on cities and states that refuse to help enforce US immigration laws.

The president praised his administration for "literally getting MS-13 out by the thousands" after cracking down on the violent gangs. I mean, frankly, if I wanted to pull our people from California, you would have a crying mess like you've never seen in California.

Trump has repeatedly equated migrants with criminals, and made hardline migration policies a central plank of his political platform.

"All I'd have to do is say, 'ICE and Border Patrol, let California learn, '" the president said. "They would be begging".

"I didn't think these senators were in the business of enacting laws they didn't want enforced".

"They are doing a lousy management job", Trump said.

ICE critics say that agents are cracking down and targeting immigrants who aren't criminals. Here are more comments from San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell: "We are a sanctuary city because we know our city is safer when law abiding residents, regardless of immigration status, are active members of our community". "They're about to see a lot more special agents, a lot more deportation officers in the state of California".

While it's unclear how serious he is, both Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims and Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer worry of losing what they call a valuable public safety resource. In fact, Trump's home state of NY has the nation's highest taxes, while California comes in at tenth place.

How ironic that the president, whose administration seems to be obsessed with who is "illegal", would make remarks that amount to a potential unlawful abuse of power.

"California better hold on tight", he told Fox News last month.

Trump went on to predict that if he took such action, the state would be "begging" for the return of federal immigration authorities within two months.

Trump wasted little time before speaking out against Watson's ruling. "We are going to fight this bad rule", the president said. We are going to win. "We'd like to keep it that way".

This dispute between the administration and "sanctuary" jurisdictions will ultimately be settled by the Supreme Court.
