"Three security officials embraced shahadat while 7 injured [in the blast]", said a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), reports local media.

"The soldiers were playing volleyball in the evening outside the military base. when a suicide bomber managed to blow himself up", an official told Reuters.

Pakistan's military has raised the death toll from a suicide bombing that targeted soldiers in Swat Valley to 11 after eight troops who were critically wounded in the attack died of their wounds. A large contingent of security personnel had secured the area after the attack and started an initial investigation into the blast.

Government sources said rescue teams reached the area and shifted the injured to a hospital in Saidu Sharif. "Wait for more [such attacks] to follow".

The Afghanistan-based Pakistani Taliban immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the paper said.

Pakistan's prime minister condemned the attack and promised to continue fighting against the terrorist groups.

"No cowardly attack can deter us in pursuing our struggle against the menace of terrorism to its logical conclusion".

Since 2007, the armed forces have carried out different operations against militants (local and foreign) to drive them away from the scenic valley. The last deadly Taliban attack in Swat Valley dates back to January 2013, when the militants struck a religious center and killed 21 worshippers and injured 70 others.
