Lawsuit Claims Southern California Edison Caused Massive Fire That Made Mudslides Disastrous

The remains of one of three people still missing from the Montecito flooding and mud flow were recovered Saturday, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.

Another victim of the deadly and devastating mudslides in southern California was discovered on Saturday, bringing the total death toll so far to 21.

Faviola Benitez Calderon, 28, had been missing for almost two weeks when a search and recovery human remains detection dog team found her remains at 10 a.m. Saturday, the San Luis Obispo Tribune reported.

The bodies of Benitez Calderon's 10-year old son, Jonathan Benitez; Jonathan's 3-year-old cousin, Kaily Benitez; and Kaily's mother, 27-year-old Marilyn Ramos, had already been found. Soil hardened by the heat repelled water and sent mud, debris and giant boulders tumbling from the mountains above the community of 10,000 people.

The road has been closed between Santa Barbara and Carpinteria since the deadly Montecito mudslides that happened January 9. Officials had previously promised that the highway would be open again in time for the Monday morning commute.

A team of five firefighters and two search dogs from San Diego were among the hundreds of first responders called to the small town west of Santa Barbara.
