Abbasi, Modi unlikely to meet in Davos

In addition to the keynote address PM Modi will also have bilateral meeting with Swiss President Alain Berset at WEF Davos

Amid increasing criticism of the NDA's decisions on GST and demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said people should not evaluate him on demonetisation and GST only.

The official sessions at the WEF will also have special India-focused discussions including one on "India's role in the world", how it is rethinking economics with the use of big data in policymaking and the country's role in securing peace and stability in the Asian century.

"Besides, this is a multilateral event and the Prime Minister's central message will be that we are an economy that can be an engine of global growth".

The prime minister criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance for not addressing the matters of concern to the states.

The Prime Minister will be reaching Davos on January 22 and will likely meet Swiss premier Alain Berset on the sidelines during the day, where he is expected to discuss the issue of financial transparency and black money.

Though it has yet to be confirmed, Indian Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit Oman, prior to his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second week of February.

On increasing FDI inflows, Modi said the world has seen that this government has a "different thought" and it is good to attract global attention.

PM said that he didn't have any baggage and hence managed to easily mingle with the world leaders. It is natural that the world wants to talk directly to India and the world wants to hear directly from the horse's mouth about India's policies and potential.

Modi said the ease of doing business in the country has improved and the world knows what it means.

"Even after the banks nationalisation, 30-40 percent population remain out of the banking services and with the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana", Modi said. The GST regime came into force from July 1, 2017.
