17 Killed In Fire At Plastic Factory In Delhi Some Jumped From Terrace

As many as 17 people, including 10 women, were burnt alive or asphyxiated and 30 others injured at a fire in a plastic warehouse in west Delhi's Bawana on Saturday evening, officials said. 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and soon contained the level 4 category fire. An investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the blaze, they said.

"It was a make-4 Fire call".

"Learnt about a serious fire incident in a private factory at Bawana".

He also said police would register a case.

The Delhi government ordered an inquiry into the fire. "Keeping a close watch on rescue operations (sic)".


Prior to Kejriwal, Union ministers Harsh Vardhan, Vijay Goel and partys Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari headed to Bawana following the fire incident in a fire cracker factory that claimed 17 lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief via Twitter. "Have ordered an enquiry", Jain tweeted. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. "May those who are injured recover quickly", the prime minister's office tweeted. PTI reported an injured labourer told police that the firecrackers were brought from outside and packed at the factory. He said the injured will get an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh.

In November, a massive fire at a plastic factory in the northern city of Ludhiana left 13 people dead, including three firefighters who were killed when the building collapsed.

The fire quickly spread upwards from the basement, trapping almost two dozen workers on the upper floors, said an official at the capital´s emergency service.
