Cranberries' singer Dolores O'Riordan dead at 46

Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan dies aged 46

The Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan has died in London aged 46, her publicist has confirmed. "No further details are available at this time".

A spokesman said police were continuing inquiries into the death, which was being treated as "unexplained".

The band formed in Limerick in 1989, and went on to enjoy remarkable worldwide success.

O'Riordan was born on September 6, 1971 in Ballybricken, southwest Ireland. It reads: "She was 46 years old".

A name change and a confluence of factors turned The Cranberries into global stars. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. The album included one of the band's most popular songs "Zombie". The lead singer is seen on stage here with bandmate Noel Hogan.

Heavy play on MTV for their debut single "Dream" and the singles that followed helped bring the group to the attention of a mass audience.

The Cranberries, who rose to global fame in the 1990s, are best known for hits including 'Linger, ' 'Dreams, ' and 'Zombie'. The band's most popular album, "No Need to Argue", was seven-time platinum selling.

Dolores O'Riordan has died.

The demo also found its way to Geoff Travis, head of Rough Trade Records in London, a natural home for The Cranberries given their obvious love for The Smiths. The band's first three albums sold a combined 28 million copies. The group reunited in 2009.

Last year, they released acoustic album Something Else and had been due to tour Europe and North America.

Medical reports given to the court showed she had been suffering "mania" and was described as "mentally ill" when the incident occurred. Hopefully her songs can still live on forever even years after her passing.

James Corden also recalled a sweet memory of when he met the singer, writing: "I once met Delores O'Riordan when I was 15".

"You get ups as well as downs". She was a strong, confident, intimidating, larger than life character who seemed like nothing or no one could faze her.
