This Is How India Outsmarted Australia In The First Game

Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by five wickets in their ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup opener on Saturday

India, who will open their 2018 U-19 WC campaign against Australia, are three-time champions, with their the last triumph coming in 2014.

India U19 won the toss and opted to bat. But two bowlers have already impressed the Prince of Kolkata.

The young Australians struggled to make early inroads with the ball, as India put on 180 for the first wicket thanks with captain Privthi Shaw (94) and Manjot Kalra (86) leading the way. Abhishek Sharma hit 25 runs off 8 balls to achieve that.

BRIEF SCORESGroup A: South Africa 341-7 in 50 Overs (Raynard van Tonder 143, Jiveshan Pillay 62; Jasraj Kundi 2-49, Jayant Mepani 2-60) beat Kenya 172-7 in 50 Overs (Jasraj Kundi 41, Ankit Hirani 35 not out; Akhona Mnyaka 2-9, Kenan Smith 2-36) by 189 runs at Lincoln No. 3, Christchurch. Captain and vice-captain Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill both contributed with their half-centuries. The splendid top-order batting vindicated Shaw's decision to bat in their tournament-opener. It was not that Shaw and Kalra plundered boundaries, instead they raised their knocks with some stupendous riskfree batting. Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland's son Will is also in the national squad.

Shaw was dismissed on 94 when he edged the ball to the keeper, while Kalra was caught at mid-wicket and was dismissed at 86.

There were no steady partnerships after their departure even as Gill kept one end solid with his 54-ball knock which had six fours and a six.

Jack Edwards grabbed four wickets for Australia while Param Uppal, Will Sutherland and Austin Waugh dismissed one Indian batsman each. Edwards, though, tad expensive, picked up four wickets for 65 runs.
