YouTube Puts Logan Paul Film On Hold, Removes Him From Preferred Program

YouTube

YouTube announced late Wednesday that they were dropping Logan Paul from its Google Preferred program, which gives advertisers the ability to sell ads on the top 5 percent of creators on the platform. The company condemned Paul's actions and added that it would not allow the channel to continue to violate the community guidelines.

YouTube has had to deal with a number of brand-safety issues over the past year, and the Paul punishment is the clearest step yet that the company is not afraid to take action to combat the problem, even against its most high-profile channels.

Paul posted the video with a man's body on December 31, triggering widespread criticism.

In addition, YouTube is putting on hold projects it had in development with Paul, including a sequel to "The Thinning", a sci-fi series Paul developed for the YouTube Red subscription service.

Both Paul and PewDiePie are in the top-10 earning YouTube vloggers, trousering millions of dollars for their videos which largely comprise of playing video games and carrying out stupid pranks.

We built Google Preferred to help our customers easily reach YouTube's most passionate audiences and we've seen strong traction in the a year ago with a record number of brands. YouTube had been silent on the whole incident so far until now.

YouTube has cut some business ties with Logan Paul, the hugely popular vlogger who posted a video showing the body of an apparent suicide victim in Japan.

In Paul's first apology, he said he had wanted to raise awareness about suicide, and denied he was being controversial in order to promote his social media content.

Soon after Hell broke loose, Logan posted a video and written apology on his YouTube and Twitter accounts. The video in question was taken down by Paul within 24 hours, but it had already gained 6 million views.

The platform promised that it is looking into further consequences for Paul and his Youtube channel, which enjoys over 15 million followers. In the thread, YouTube said, "We were upset by the video that was shared last week", and "We expect more of the creators who build their community on @YouTube, as we're sure you do too".

In an open letter earlier this week, YouTube said "suicide is not a joke, nor should it ever be a driving force for views".
