Protests against child rape, killing continue

Minor girl brutally raped, killed and dumped in trash in Kasur

The popular anchor said she was left distraught and pained after hearing the news of the heinous rape-murder of the minor girl in eastern Pakistan's Kasur town.

The minor girl was laid to rest in a graveyard in Kasur after her parents arrived from Saudi Arabia in the evening.

The murder has sparked outrage across Pakistan. He said they would not bury their daughter until those responsible were arrested.

Protesters clashed with security forces Wednesday, the day of Zainab's funeral.

When they tried to storm the office of the district police office, riot police opened fire to break up the protest, resulting in the death of two people.

In a speech to thousands of mourners, he blamed the Punjab chief minister, Shahbaz Sharif, for failing to "protect lives and honour of innocent girls" in the province.

Lawyers boycotted judicial proceedings at district bar in protest and demanded early action into the matter.

It was the 12th incident of child molestation in Kasur in a year, according to Zulfiqar Ahmed, a senior police officer.

A number of police officials have been transferred out of the region for failing to investigate complaints of missing children since 2015, when authorities uncovered what they said was a paedophile ring linked to a prominent local family. I want justice. I don't know anything else.

Zainab Ansari, the minor girl whose death ignited protests, was reported missing last week, news agency Reuters reported.

Pakistan's powerful army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa offered "all out support to civil administration to arrest the criminals", according to a tweet from the army's media wing Inter-service Public Relations (ISPR).

The rape and murder of Ansari, 8, made people in Kasur furious. Officer Maqsood Ahmed said six girls were sexually assaulted in recent months in Kasur and that police were probing whether there was a connection in the cases.

"Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the youngest daughter of late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and former president Asif Ali Zardari, said: "#JusticeForZainab she was only 7 years old!

Zainab was an eight-year-old Pakistani girl who was horrifically raped and killed on her way to a Quran recital.

- Maryam Nawaz Sharif (@MaryamNSharif) January 10, 2018The condemnable & horrific rape & murder of little Zainab exposes once again how vulnerable our children are in our society.

In a condemnation posted on Twitter, PTI chief stated: "This is not the first time such horrific acts have happened".

Pakistani politician and ex-international cricket player Imran Khan also condemned the incident and said that the guilty must be punished "swiftly".
