Manhunt underway for MI couple after 4-year-old child murdered

URGENT: Manhunt underway for couple after 4-year-old girl found dead with 'severe burns'

Police are searching for the parents of a 4-year-old Sumpter Township girl who died Monday after being found with severe burns.

According to the information provided by the police on their Facebook page, they responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive four-year-old girl in a house on Greenmeadow Drive, inside the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Community.

Severe burns covered the little girl's extremities, according to police who responded to a 911 call at the Sumpter Township, Mich., mobile home park, just before 11 a.m. on January 1.

She was taken to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor by ambulance.

Two days later, the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled the child's death as a homicide with evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and signs of Battered Child Syndrome.

Diaz and Fields are believed to be traveling in a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier with MI tag number DTR1854, police officials said.

The couple face charges of felony murder, second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse and torture in the death of Gabby Barrett.

Candice Renea Diaz, 24, and Brad Fields, 28, were captured by U.S. Marshals in Lake Park near the Florida state line, the Sumpter Township Police Department confirmed. Police were called to the Woods Mobile Home Community on January 1 for a report of an unresponsive child who had severe burns to her extremities.

According to reports, Fields was arrested on May 20, 2016, and was charged with multiple counts of crime including firearm possession and domestic violence.

Michigan State Police and the Child Protective Services agency are now assisting with the crime investigation.

[Photo: US Marshals]Gabby's biological father, Kyle Barrett, isn't a suspect in the child's murder, according to FOX2. She pleaded guilty to weapons charges and received probation. I know we may not have a lot of information at all, but, it just hurts'.

Gabby's grandmother, Deborah Barrett, described the little girl as a "ball of joy". Grandfather Jerry Barrett noted that it was hard to grieve because the family could not put her to rest.

Gabby's family has set up a GoFundMe account for funeral costs. She always had a smile on her face, loved to play.
