Serena Williams Pulls Out Of Australian Open

Serena Williams withdraws from Australian Open

"After the two events, a decision will be made about his participation at the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, where Novak has been crowned champion six times". However, she chose to bow out of the tournament just four months after giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia.

Defending champion Serena Williams pulled out of the Australian Open on Friday, saying she was "super close " but still not at the level she needs to be after giving birth to her first child.

Ms Williams returned to the court on December 30 at the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, where she lost an exhibition match against Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 3-6 10-5.

Fans of tennis superstar Serena Williams were gearing up for her big comeback to the sport later this month, but they're going to have to wait a bit longer.

"After competing in Abu Dhabi, I realised that although I am super close, I'm not where I personally want to be", Williams added.

Serena has mentioned in many of her earlier interviews that she will surely defend her title in 2018 Australian Open.

Williams was facing major problems in serving last month but clarified that she missed being on the court.

In her announcement, Williams said that she will soon return to the Australian Open, but will first focus on her daughter.

Williams, whose Grand Slam tally is just one shy of the all-time record held by Australian Margaret Court, said she was disappointed to withdraw, but looked forward to returning in the future.

Other star players, including top-ranked Rafael Nadal, six-time champion Novak Djokovic and 2014 victor Stan Wawrinka, also are dealing with injuries.

"I've been in constant contact with Serena and her team and know this is why she has pushed it and pushed it until the 11th hour to make her final decision", Tiley said.

Few players have successfully bounced back after giving birth, and even fewer have managed to go on to win Grand Slam titles.
