Everton's Ross Barkley set for Chelsea medical

Official! Ross Barkley joins Chelsea from Everton for £15 million

Chelsea have reportedly beaten Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who will set them back around £15m.

Barkley was said to be on the verge of joining the champions in the previous transfer window, but opted against a move on Deadline Day. According to reports from the Telegraph, the Blues submitted a deal late last night, in a hurry to rush things.

But negotiations between the clubs resumed once the transfer window re-opened on 1 January.

The Blues could even complete the signing on Friday after talks accelerated over a deal believed to be worth in the region of £15million, amid suggestions Barkley was in London on Thursday.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that his club are expecting to receive a bid for Ross Barkley this month and concedes that they are destined to lose the England worldwide. Allardyce went on to say, "The club was resigned before I got here that they were going to lose Ross. I can't see that changing".

And the bookies claim a deal is getting ever nearer as the 24-year-old is now 1/5 odds-on to leave the Toffees.

Barkley was out of contract at the end of the season, and could have left Everton on a free transfer. Barkley has yet to play this season, as he recovers from a hamstring injury, and earlier this year he rejected a new contract to stay at Goodison Park.
