KARMA: After India Votes Against Israel, Palestinian Authority Stands With India's Enemies

Palestine envoy attends Hafiz Saeed's rally in Pakistan

Palestine recalled its envoy after strong protest from India, pointing out, it highly values its relationship with the country.

Hajia emphasised that Palestine supports India in its fight against terrorism and Ali will be appointed again.

Waleed Abu Ali had shared a stage with Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Rawalpindi on FridayNEW DELHI Palestine on Saturday recalled its envoy to Pakistan for sharing the stage with 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, after India termed his action "unacceptable" and issued a demarche.

Secretary (Economic Relations) in the External Affairs Ministry Vijay Gokhale called Palestinian ambassador in New Delhi Adnan Abu Al Haija to the South Block.

"On the basis of the principled and firm Palestinian position, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates considered the participation of our ambassador in Pakistan in a mass rally in solidarity with Jerusalem, held in Rawalpindi on Friday and in the presence of individuals accused of supporting terrorism is an unintended mistake, but not justified".

The Palestinian side too had conveyed "deep regrets", assuring India that they will take serious cognisance of their ambassador's presence at the event.

The Palestine action came after its envoy Waleed Abu Ali attended a rally organised by United Nations designated terrorist and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed in Rawalpindi on Friday.

"They have said they will deal with this matter appropriately", a foreign ministry statement on Saturday said.

India and the Palestinian Authority are also discussing a possible visit to Ramallah by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February - seen by some here as a conciliatory gesture in connection with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to India in January.

"We take note of the assurances given by the Palestine side", the statement added.

The Palestinian foreign ministry in its statement said Palestine "highly appreciates" the move by India to vote in favour of a resolution asking the USA to withdraw its decision to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital at the United Nations General Assembly.

The India-Palestine Solidarity Front (IPSF) in New Delhi strongly condemned the Palestinian envoy's dais sharing with Saeed and later appreciated the prompt action by President Mahmoud Abbas to recall Ali. India's vote was seen to be against Israel, a close friend of India as well as United States, its strategic partner. He did not know the terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

Palestine wants to maintain a healthy relationship with India.

Pakistan says India has not provided enough evidence to charge Saeed, and he denies involvement in the 2008 attacks. In early December, he had met Pakistan's Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi. It has campaigned for long for snapping ties with India and the US.
