Winter Weather Advisory issued for forecasted Friday snowfall

Winter storm to bring significant snow

Lows will fall around 0 tonight with wind chills around -15 to -25.

Champaign and Vermilion counties could see 2 to 4 inches of snow, with the heaviest snowfall from 1 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Friday.

A wide band of accumulating snow is forecast to spread into the Chicago area from the west - reaching westernmost portions of the area late morning, eventually covering the remainder of the area into northwest IN by mid-afternoon. The snow will also be light and fluffy so snow blowing onto the roads could also be a concern.

Above is a National Weather Service Missoula office estimate on total snowfall from this storm.

The heavier amounts will likely be focused on the US 30 and Interstate 80 corridors, where snowfall rates of an inch or more per hour will lead to rapid accumulation and very poor visibility for the evening commute. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected.

Forecast models show the greatest impacts along the MT/ID state line including Lookout Pass and along the Rocky mountain front. We could see more snow towards the middle of next week. Skies will remain mostly cloudy the rest of the overnight hours.
