AT least four people have been killed and 15 more injured after a bus plunged into a pedestrian underpass in Russian Federation.

Photos and video on social media showed the bus' windshield smashed with at least one body nearby.

Police immediately ruled out a possibility of it being an attack, saying that they suspect a mechanical fault or that the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The Interfax news agency said that the investigators had confirmed that the incident had occurred as a result of a technical fault with the bus.


Muscovites are bringing bouquets of flowers to the underground walkway near Slavyansky Boulevard metro station where a hair-raising road accident involving a commuter bus occurred on Monday afternoon. According to various sources, he could have pushed the wrong pedal or taken off the bus from a handbrake, after which it rolled out into the underground passage.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, expressed condolences to the relatives of people that have been killed in the crash and stated that authorities are providing necessary urgent assistance to those injured.

The people killed in the accident were crushed by the bus as it moved toward the station. The driver of the bus has been detained.
