The president has cast Democratic candidate Doug Jones as too liberal for Alabama.
"Judge Moore's going to go to Washington, Judge Moore is going to win, and I highly doubt there's going to be a Senate investigation", Young told ABC's Martha Raddatz on Sunday.
President Donald Trump returned on Friday to one of the pivotal states that gave him the presidency a year ago, even while delivering a message to its neighbor to the west: Reject Democrat Doug Jones in the Alabama Senate race. At that time, according to Nelson, Moore was pursuing a sexual relationship with her and had groped and tried to rape her. Nelson's attorney, Gloria Allred, had incorrectly attributed the notes to Moore when she and Nelson revealed the yearbook page at a press conference last month.
Jones needs to energize the state's Democratic base, which consists primarily of black voters and white progressives in urban areas, and also peel away some votes that would typically go to a Republican.
Shelby says he had to vote Republican as a party officeholder, but he was swayed by a woman's claims that Moore sexually assaulted her when she was 14. "Ah, what are we gonna do - Gloria Allred, anytime you see her, you know something's going wrong". Trump said. "There was a little mistake made, she started writing things in the yearbook". Moore, who was twice ejected in disgrace from his seat on the Alabama Supreme Court, should be a shoo-in.
Trump last week issued a full endorsement for the Republican candidate, whom multiple women have accused of sexual misconduct while they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s.
The political risk explains why Trump, after sitting on the fence, threw his support behind Moore, saying Republicans "cannot afford" to lose the Senate seat.
The White House said Trump's Pensacola rally was on the books long before Moore's race got complicated. "I had no encounter with them". The president didn't have much of anything to say on Moore's behalf, however, other than to point out he would be a reliable pro-Trump vote in the Senate.
Top Republicans, including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, had called on Moore to step aside after the allegations were made public.
"He will never, ever vote for us", said Trump.
Friday's campaign rally was Trump's first since September, when he went to Alabama to campaign for Sen. This is a part of the state that voted overwhelmingly for the president in 2016. Moore, by contrast, held no public events, a familiar strategy as he bets big that the state's strong Republican leanings will carry him to the Senate, despite his shortcomings. Luther Strange, who lost the GOP runoff election to Moore.
For those voters who believe the accusations against Moore, there is a third option aside from him or Jones: write in another candidate.
Trump said the United States has "thousands of people right now under surveillance", without offering more details.
However, the president's daughter-in-law Lara Trump via robocall invited some Alabama voters to the rally in Florida.
Trump later continued: "We love our veterans".
"They're resisting the will of the American people", he said.
