Rep. Trent Franks R-Ariz. speaks with a reporter on Capitol Hill in Washington. Franks is calling on special counsel Robert Mueller to resign citing what he says is a conflict of interest because of Mueller’s

Trent Franks of Arizona is expected to resign over allegations of sexual misconduct, sources told The Post.

According to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey's office, "According to Arizona state law, the governor will have to call a special election to fill the seat because Franks' resignation comes more than six months before the next general election". Notably, Franks neither confirmed nor denied that he was going to resign.

He's a strong backer of President Donald Trump and has embraced some of his stances on social issues.

Trent Franks, the dean of Arizona's House Republicans, is reportedly stepping down amid claims of inappropriate behavior.

Frank's northwest Phoenix suburb is reliably Republican, having gone to Trump and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, both of whom won the district by more than 20 percentage points, and Franks easily won re-election a year ago. Franks told Roll Call that he would make a statement on Thursday evening, that will "explain" things.

Franks told RollCall, "We will have a statement a little bit later, but that's all I can tell you right now".

Franks sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. He is now serving his eighth term in the United States Congress.
