Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Now Worth $100 Billion

Jeff Bezos Worth Over $100B After Amazon's Black Friday Rally

Founder and largest shareholder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos has not only become the richest person in the world, but also touched the Dollars 100 billion-mark for the first time, according to a Bloomberg report. On Friday alone, Bezos made nearly $2.4 billion.

Now, as online shoppers gear up for the holidays with some sweet Black Friday deals, Bezos has regained the top spot and skyrocketed past the coveted $100 billion mark.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has reached a net worth of $100 billion - enough to buy over half a billion Echo speakers or pay the yearly subscriptions of more than 670 million Amazon Music Unlimited accounts. He becomes the first person to reach that amount of wealth since Gates in 1999.

Amazon stock shot up 2.5% Friday, and Bezos is the largest shareholder. The Microsoft founder is now worth a mere $89 billion, according to Forbes and Bloomberg. The stock got a lift from reports that online shopping on Thanksgiving and Black Friday jumped 18 per cent compared with a year ago. Unlike Gates, Bezos has given very little of his fortune to charity so far. Were he more selfish, Bloomberg estimates Gates could now be worth $150 billion.

The hike in Mr Bezos's wealth had soared by $32.6bn this year up until Thursday, with the extra $2.4bn landing in his pocket ahead of the consumer frenzy, and secures his position as the world's richest man. This past June he asked Twitter for ideas on how to be a better philanthropist.

The 53-year-old Amazon founder bought The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million and founded the aerospace company Blue Origin, a rival to Elon Musk's SpaceX, in 2000.

Jeff Bezos, of course, gained entry to the billionaires' club years ago.
