Incident at London's Oxford Circus station over: United Kingdom police

A Metropolitan Police spokesman contacted by AFP said the details of the incident were not known yet

The police said they had found no evidence of previously reported gunshots, and that there were no casualties. "If you sought shelter in a building please now leave, and follow the direction of police officers on the ground if you need assistance".

London's transport authority said Oxford Circus underground station was closed while police dealt with what it called "customer incident". Shortly afterwards the Metropolitan Police also took similar calls.

British Transport Police tweeted just after 4:40 p.m. that officers were are on the scene.

The shooting had been notable as November 24 is considered one of the busiest shopping days in the country, meaning that thousands of people could possibly be on the streets when the shooting had happened.


There was panic among rush-hour commuters and Black Friday shoppers in central London on Friday, with hundreds of people fleeing the scene.

"Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related".

Armed officers and fire engines were rushed to one of London's busiest shopping areas, where eyewitnesses reported scenes of stampede as reports of suspected shots being fired caused panic and chaos. Local residents said heavy police presence could be seen.
