Tencent to Release Localized, Altered Version in China

PUBG test server update nerfs water adds two new weapons various tweaks and extra damaging crotch-punches

Last month, the Chinese content watchdog criticised PUBG for deviating from "socialist core values". China right now accounts for about 40-percent of the game's player base, the outlet points out, citing metrics from SteamSpy.

Outside of the lack of updates in preparation for the game's full launch, the biggest problem facing PUBG users around the world is the increase in cheaters.

"[Tencent] will make adjustment to content. and make sure they accord with socialist core values, Chinese traditional culture, and moral rules", the company said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.

To do this, Tencent said it will try to give players what it calls an "educational and guiding" experience, though didn't elaborate on what that meant. It'll also be interesting to see how all of this changes the competitive aspect of the game.

PUBG in China will therefore be "different" and "catering to the preference of Chinese gamers", according to its South Korean creator, PUBG Corp.

In terms of the partnership on PUBG Corporation's side, it couldn't have found a better partner to work with in China.

Tencent Holdings Ltd, the Chinese gaming giant will be responsible for localizing the game. With Tencent behind the project, it's now unlikely such a ban will be put in place.

PUBG Corp is planning to perform a stable game service such as the expansion of the server and enhancement of anti-hacking programs, through the contract with Tencent, the company which has been successfully developing and servicing a diversity of major online games.
