Apple delays HomePod smart speaker

Apple's Home Pod was unveiled in June

In addition, the company has mentioned that it will release in early 2018, which is very vague.

We need a little more time before it's ready for our customers.

Apple has delayed the launch of its smart home speaker HomePod until 2018 and reportedly said that it needed more time to work on it.

The Siri-powered smart speaker will not be rolled out in time to be part of the holiday shopping season, which means that the Amazon Echo and the Google Home will have one less competitor this year.

- If you were hoping to buy a HomePod for your honey this holiday season, you'll have to come up with plan b.

Tech giant Apple Inc. has delayed the release of its much awaited smart speaker, HomePod, until 2018.

The smart speaker industry has become more competitive this year and launching a first smart speaker at the end of 2017 was already a but late from Apple. The first quarter of 2018 may see the speakers being shipped to the United States, the UK and the Australian markets.

Apple is also counting on HomePod to boost subscriptions to Apple Music and block the rise of rival Spotify. Like its competitors, the speaker is controlled by Apple's AI assistant - Siri - which can do things such as read out the news, send iMessages and arrange music play lists.

In addition, there are many new smart speaker options that have been added over the last few months by various technology companies, usually integrating Google assistants, Amazon, or even Windows, with some speakers that they allow to choose between several incorporated assistants. Although developers can make apps for Siri and HomePod, they're now limited to building things like lists, notes, and messaging. Earlier this year, Google and Amazon put out a slew of other smart speakers, including a mini version of the Google Home and a model of the Echo with better sound quality.

The Apple Homepod will be available in two colors: black and white.

Apple announced the device at its developer conference in June. But now it seems that Apple wants to make a product solid enough before users pay $349 for it.
